Bodegas Tinto Pesquera was founded in 1972 by the wine-making genius Alejandro Fernandez, known as the "Godfather of Spanish Wine" and the "King of Tempranillo." He is the creator of the world's first world-class 100% Tempranillo wine and has since become synonymous with high-quality wines globally.
Located on the banks of the Duero River in Ribera del Duero, not far from the Vega Sicilia Group, the winery spans over 200 hectares, exclusively cultivating Spain's most representative black grape, Tempranillo. The wines produced by the winery are of exceptional quality, with their flagship wine, Janus, being acclaimed by Robert Parker as the "Petrus of Spain."
Established in 1975, Tinto Pesquera wines received widespread praise from wine experts such as Robert Parker and Wine Spectator upon their introduction to the US market. Robert Parker even included the winery in his book "The World’s Greatest Wine Estates," praising both the owner and winemaker Alejandro Fernandez for their winemaking skills and detailing the greatness of the winery. Taiwanese wine writer Chen Xinmin also referred to the winery as the "Douro River Garden" in his book "Rare Vintage: World's Top 100 Wines."
The Grupo Pesquera conglomerate owns four estates:
- Bodegas Tinto Pesquera (Tinto Pesquera)
- Bodegas Condado de Haza (Condado de Haza)
- Bodegas Dehesa la Granja (Dehesa la Granja)
